Selling items on eBay is easy. Take the following steps and you'll be selling in no time.
- Read the basic steps for selling an item
- Read more about listing your item and selling on eBay, including:
eBay offers a variety of selling formats. These include:
- Auction-style listings: Let bidders compete for your item
- Buy It Now (BIN): Set the price for selling one or more items and skip the auction
For detailed information and help choosing a selling format, read our Selling formats page.
What price should I put on my item?
Setting your price involves not only deciding the starting price of your item, but also selecting pricing options based on which selling format you select.
Recommended:
As part of your pricing strategy, use the completed listings search to find similar items that have recently sold on eBay. Notice the starting and ending price of items that have sold as well as the selling formats selected.
Pricing for auction-style listings:
- The starting price is the lowest price you are willing to sell your item at. Bidding will start at this price. Sellers have found that setting the starting price too high may discourage bidding
- Specify a reserve price: This option is only available when selling in select vehicle categories. Research conducted by eBay indicates that using the reserve price feature can be detrimental to the performance of your listings
- If you have a problem with your winning bidder you can make an offer to a non-winning bidder. Conditions apply. This Second Chance Offer contains a Buy It Now (BIN) price equal to the non-winning bidder's bid amount
Pricing for BIN listings:
- Enter the price at which you wish to sell your item or items as the BIN price
Pricing for multiple item listings:
- Enter a starting price of at least $0.99
How do I revise my listing?
The changes you can make to your listing depend on: the type of listing, the time left before it ends and whether you have received any bids or sales.
For steps to revise a listing, as well as details of revision limitations, see the Listing creation overview page.
Can I end my listing immediately?
Reasons for ending listings early include:
- Item is no longer available for sale
- An error in the starting price or reserve amount
- An error in the listing
- The item was lost or broken
To end your listing early:
- Type your item number into the End My Listing Early form. Get this number from your listing, your confirmation email or your My eBay page
- If there are bids on your item choose between:
- Cancel bids and end listing early OR
- Sell item to high bidder(s) and end listing early (if your item has no bids you can skip this step)
- Choose the reason you're ending the listing early
- The listing will end and will no longer be displayed on eBay
- If there were bidders, they will receive an email saying that their bid was cancelled and the listing ended early
Please note: Your account will still be charged listing fees (such as the Insertion Fee). Consider revising your listing first if there are aspects of it you want to change or improve.
The item I listed for sale isn’t showing up when I search for it. How can I find it?
You can find your listing by using My eBay or searching by Item Number.
Please note: Your listing may not be searchable until several hours after you've created it.
