Detailed seller ratings

Detailed seller ratings:

  • Allow buyers to provide additional information about the transaction
  • Give sellers a more complete picture of their performance
  • Are based on a five star scale and do not impact overall feedback scores

In addition to leaving a feedback rating for a seller, buyers can also leave detailed seller ratings which cover four areas:

  • Item as described
  • Communication
  • Postage time
  • Postage and handling charges

How to leave detailed seller ratings

Leave detailed seller ratings on the Leave Feedback page after you have given your feedback rating (positive, neutral or negative) and comments.

When rating the seller please consider the following:

  • Be honest - objective ratings help sellers improve performance and help future buyers accurately evaluate sellers
  • Review the item title and description before rating the seller on the item as described
  • Consider only business days when evaluating communication as sellers don't always check email on weekends and holidays
  • When rating sellers on postage time, rate the seller on the time it took them to mail the item, not the time it took you to receive the item. Sellers can't be held responsible for delays in mail services, international customs delays or for the time it took your payment to clear
  • When rating the seller on postage and handling charges, remember sellers may charge actual packaging materials costs and a reasonable handling fee to cover the seller's time and direct costs associated with postage. For international transactions, you may also be responsible for duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees as requested by country laws

Where to find detailed seller ratings

Detailed seller ratings are:

  • Located on the top of each member's Feedback Profile
  • An average of the rating for each criterion divided by the number of ratings received
  • Calculated on a rolling 12-month basis and will only appear when at least 10 ratings have been received

If a buyer has left multiple detailed seller ratings, the average of that buyer's ratings will be used when calculating the seller's detailed seller ratings.

Note: Transactions in motor vehicle categories cannot be rated on postage time and "postage and handling charges" since vehicle delivery is typically arranged by the buyer.

Revising detailed seller ratings

Buyers can change the detailed seller ratings they left if the seller sends a request to revise the rating.

How it works

Sellers:

  • Can send a request to a buyer to change detailed seller ratings or feedback within 30 days of the feedback being left
  • Can send up to five requests per 1000 feedback earned per year
  • May only send one request to a buyer per transaction
  • Are only able to ask a buyer to change a neutral or negative feedback

Note: only send requests when you are confident the buyer will change the feedback since you only get five requests per 1000 feedback earned.

Buyers:

  • Have 10 days to respond to the seller’s request
  • Have three options upon receiving a feedback revision request:
    1. Revise the feedback (rating, comment or detailed seller rating may be changed)
    2. Decline the feedback revision request – no action is taken
    3. Ignore the feedback revision request – no action is taken
  • Can not lower their rating, for example they can't change a positive rating to a neutral or negative; or a neutral to a negative  

Sellers

Tips to help improve your detailed seller ratings

  • Accurately describe your item
  • Include if it is new or used
  • Honour your selling terms
  • Don't describe reconditioned or refurbished items as new. When buyers see the word new, they expect new, not like new
  • Set clear expectations for postage time up front in the item description. If you don't post on weekends state that in your description
  • Communicate promptly and clearly
  • Respond to messages from your buyer
  • Proactively provide order status updates as needed
  • If a problem arises, don't assign blame. Work with your buyer to resolve the problem quickly and professionally
