Choice listings

A choice listing is a listing where a seller allows buyers to choose from a selection of items. Choice listings are generally not allowed and will be ended.

Exceptions:
Listings may offer custom-made items or services that are created or customised to the buyer's specification. All offered options must be provided at no additional charge to the buyer.

Multiple quantity listings may offer a choice of colour and/or size in otherwise identical items. However, the seller must be able to fulfil the entire quantity of every listing in any offered colour and size even if every buyer makes exactly the same colour and size selection. Choice listings may not be offered "subject to availability" or require the buyer to contact the seller to see which colours and/or size are available or what quantity is available.

See also the policy related to choice travel certificates.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation
  • Limits on account privileges
  • Account suspension
  • Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
  • Loss of PowerSeller status

Some Examples

Examples of Choice listings not allowed
Different items with similar titles for sale within one listing e.g. DVDs Rocky 1, Rocky 2, Rocky 3. These would need to be listed as separate items as they are not identical.

Examples of Choice listings allowed (customisation)

  • Made-to-order clothing such as personalized T-shirts
  • Choice of size in pre-made items, such as clothing
  • Re-sizing of rings
  • Personalized mailing labels
  • Multiple quantity listings only: If a seller creates a multiple quantity listing showing a quantity of 10 available, the seller must have 10 items available in each size and colour. For example a seller offers t-shirts available in two colours (Red and Blue) and two sizes (small and large) and lists the quantity available as 10. The seller would actually need to have 40 t-shirts in stock - 10 red smalls, 10 blue smalls, 10 red large and 10 blue large

Why does eBay have this Policy?

This policy is designed to give buyers the flexibility of being able to choose a size and/or colour that suits their need without having to search through individual listings while protecting them from any unknown or hidden costs or additional fees.

Choice Listing Exceptions allow a seller to offer custom-made items or services that are created or customized to the buyer's specification. Additionally, the Choice Listing Exception for multiple-item listing formats allows members to save on listing fees and potentially increase sales.
