PayPal Buyer Protection

PayPal Buyer Protection can offer you purchase protection when you shop on eBay.com.au and pay with PayPal.

PayPal Buyer Protection is a policy* that applies to almost all the items sold on eBay.com.au. It means that most items paid for by PayPal (exceptions listed below) could be eligible for up to AU$20,000 in purchase protection if:

  • You, the buyer, do not receive the item OR
  • It is significantly not as described by the seller

Conditions apply to both categories.

See our dispute resolution page for buyers for information about what to do if you did not receive the item you paid for.

PayPal Buyer Protection applies to:

  • Tangible, physical goods that can be shipped

PayPal Buyer Protection does NOT apply to:

  • Cars (which are covered by Vehicle Purchase Protection instead - Note: this program will be ending on Nov 23, 2009. All car purchases after this date will not be covered.)
  • Intangibles (such as licences or digitally delivered goods)
  • Airline tickets
  • Services
  • Real Estate
  • Businesses for Sale
  • Items prohibited in the PayPal acceptable use policy

How do I know if the item I'm buying is covered by PayPal Buyer Protection?

If you pay with PayPal and your item falls into the eligible categories outlined above, then you may be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.
