Registration is free and easy. You only have to register once, although you can register a second eBay account.

How do I register?
To register follow these steps:
- Click the register link located at the bottom of most eBay pages
- Enter your name, address and phone number
- Enter your email address. Be sure to enter an email address that you can check right away
- Choose a User ID and password
- Select a secret question and enter your answer
- Enter your date of birth
- Read the eBay User Agreement and Privacy Policy
- Select the I agree to the following check box
- Click the Register button
- Check your email for a message with a link and instructions for confirming your registration
- Open your registration email
- Click the Activate Your eBay Membership link
- A registration confirmation message displays
- If you've done this but nothing happens, or if you’d rather copy the confirmation code and paste it into the confirmation page, do the following:
- Find your confirmation code in the registration email
- Enter your confirmation code in the specified box (if it isn't already entered for you)
- If your email address is not already displayed on this page, be sure to enter the email address you originally registered with
- Click the Continue button
- Click the Create my account button

Why have I been asked to provide a credit/debit card to verify my identity?
If you register with a Web-based (anonymous) email address, such as an email address from Yahoo! or Hotmail, you'll need to place a valid credit or debit card on file to verify your identity.
Your card will be used for identification only. It will not be charged.
If you don't want to place a credit card or debit card on file please register with an email address from a company or paid Internet Service Provider, such as Telstra BigPond.
Can I register more than one account?
Yes. However, keep in mind that:
- Both accounts must have different User IDs and different email addresses
- The two accounts will never be used in the same listing
- The two accounts can not use each other’s Member Profiles
To create a seller's account you need to:
- Register as a general user
- Register to become an eBay seller
- Verify your identity
- Select how to pay your seller fees
- Register as a business if required
To become an eBay seller:
- Click on Sell at the top of any eBay page
- Go through the process of listing your item via the Sell Your Item form
- At the end of the form you’ll be asked to verify your identity and select how you will pay your seller fees
Verify your identity
To sell items on eBay you need to place one of the following on file:
- PayPal account information
- Credit card or debit card
- Bank account information
This is just to verify your identity. Your card will not be charged.
Select how to pay your seller fees
Select one of the following methods to pay your seller fees:
- Credit card (monthly and one-time payments)
- Debit card you've placed on file (monthly and one-time payments)
- PayPal* (monthly one-time payments)
- Cheque or money order (one-time payment) – requires a voucher
Should I register as a business?
Register as a business account if you:
- Sell items that you have bought to resell
- Sell items that you have produced yourself to sell
- Sell a large amount of goods on a regular basis
- Sell new items that you have not acquired for your personal use
- Sell items as a trading assistant
- Buy items for your business
The advantages of registering as a business are:
- Business sellers can register with a company name
- The company name will be displayed in all communication with the buyer, such as invoices and emails
- Business sellers can display contact details, return policies and terms and conditions in all of their listings
- Business sellers may realise tax advantages if they register as a business

To register as a business:
- Click the register link located at the bottom of most eBay pages
- Go to the top of the registration form page
- Click on the link Want to open an account for your company?
- Complete the registration form
Can I change my account type?
Yes. If you’ve already registered, you can change your account type.
To change your account type from individual to business:
- Go to My eBay
- Click the Personal Information link under the My Account heading
- Click the Edit link next to Account Type
- Go to the Change Account Type page
- Select the Business option
- Click the Continue button
- Enter your business name
- Click the Change to Business Account button
To change your account type from business to individual:
- Go to My eBay
- Click the Business Information link under the My Account heading
- Click the Edit link next to Account Type
- Go to the Change Account Type page
- Click the Change to Individual Account button
*If you want to use PayPal to accept credit or debit card and bank payments online, eBay recommends signing up before you list your first item for sale. Sign up for PayPal.
