About feedback

Feedback represents your permanent reputation as an eBay member. It’s made up of comments and ratings left by other eBay members you've bought from and sold to. These comments and ratings, along with your overall Feedback Score, are available in your Feedback Profile.

Click on the links below to jump to that section of the page.

How does feedback work?

You receive:

  • +1 point for each positive comment and rating left for you
  • 0 points for each neutral comment and rating left for you
  • -1 point for each negative comment and rating left for you
  • A feedback star once you have 10 or more comments and ratings left for you

Who can leave feedback and when?

Anyone who has completed a transaction on eBay.com.au may leave feedback for their trading partner (subject to a few exceptions).

eBay strongly encourages you to leave feedback for all transactions as:

  • Feedback helps the eBay community share experiences
  • Rewards good members
  • Helps members avoid the not so good ones

Find out how to leave feedback.

Feedback for buyers

  • Sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers, or none at all
  • If a seller has a problem with a buyer and the buyer has violated an eBay policy, they can report that buyer to eBay for investigation

Feedback for sellers

  • If you bought an item you can leave positive, neutral or negative feedback for the seller
  • This is to ensure buyers have the confidence to provide honest feedback on sellers who haven’t met their expectations without fear of retaliation through feedback
  • eBay encourages buyers to contact sellers to try to resolve any problems with a transaction before leaving negative feedback
  • Buyers can change the feedback rating, comment or Detailed Seller Ratings they left for a seller, but only if the seller first sends a request to the buyer asking them to revise the feedback

Feedback restrictions

Buyers must:

  • Wait seven days before leaving negative or neutral feedback for active PowerSellers who have been registered for at least 12 months
  • Complete a checklist of steps taken to resolve an issue before leaving negative or neutral feedback

Note: New members are required to take a tutorial on feedback before leaving any negative comments about other members.

Should I make my Feedback Profile public or private?

Keep your Feedback Profile public.

If you have a private Feedback Profile, you won’t be able to sell items on eBay. Your Feedback Profile is a valuable asset that helps you earn the trust of other eBay members. If you keep your Feedback Profile public you’ll increase the chance of other members trading with you.

If your Feedback Profile is private, your feedback comments will be hidden from other members.

To make your member profile public or private:

  1. Go to the Make Your Member Profile Public or Private page
  2. Select either Make my profile public or Make my profile private
  3. Click Submit
