How to search & browse

There are two main ways to look for an item on eBay: search or browse

Search

Use this method if you're looking for a specific item or want to narrow down your options.

    How to search:

    • To start searching visit the eBay homepage
    • Type two or three words that describe the item in the search box
    • Click the Search button. The search results will be sorted by default by Best Match
    • Click Advanced Search for more options to narrow down your search results

    Searching on eBay has changed!

    With a new look and updated technology, there are now more options to help you get the search results you want.

    Browse

    Use this method when you’re not sure what you’re looking for or just want to see what's available.

      How to browse:

      • Click on Categories at the top left of the eBay homepage
      • Refine your results by selecting categories, listing duration, format and location
      • The total number of items available is shown next to each category
      • Select Search Options on the lefthand side or click the Customise Display link on the righthand side to narrow down and organise the items displayed

      More ways to find items

      Search to see what a particular item sold for

      Search by completed listings:

      1. Click the Advanced Search link located at the top of most eBay pages
      2. Enter your keywords and any other search information
      3. Select the Completed listings only checkbox
      4. Click Search

      Find items sold by a particular seller

      To search for items by seller:

      1. Click the Advanced Search link located at the top of most eBay pages
      2. On the left side of the page under Search, click the Items by Seller link
      3. Enter the seller’s User ID
      4. Select or clear any of the checkboxes, as needed
      5. To sort your search results, select your sort options
      6. Click the Search button
      7. From your search results, click the View Seller’s Items button for the seller you want
        Note: The View Seller’s Items button only appears if the seller has active listings or items to sell

      Search by item number

      If you know the item number for the item you want to find, you can search by Item Number (also called Item #).

      You can find the item number on the item’s listing page, to the right of the listing title. If you’re the seller, you can also find the item number in the listing confirmation email and on the Selling tab of My eBay.

      How to search by item number:

      1. In the search box where you normally type keywords, type the item number
      2. Click Search

      Search items using Product Finders

      Certain categories have additional finding options (Product Finders). These allow you to search using typical characteristics about an item or topic area.

      For example, in DVDs, you can search by genre, condition and formatting (wide-screen/full-screen).

      How to search using a Product Finder:

      1. On any results page with a Product Finder, select additional information about your item from the available links or lists
      2. Click Show Items
