Vouchers & coupons

eBay occasionally sends out Vouchers (sometimes referred to as ‘Coupons’) that our members can use to pay for items where the seller accepts PayPal as a payment method.

Click on the links below to jump to that section of the page.

Requirements

You can use eBay Vouchers on any item that accepts PayPal, as long as the following requirements are met:

  • Items must be paid for using PayPal within 10 days of the item's closing on eBay
  • Items must meet all voucher requirements
  • If you buy or win an item, you are required to purchase it even if you cannot use the voucher you intended for that purchase. If that's not possible, you should contact the seller by clicking the seller's User ID on the item page
  • If your payment is declined for a purchase, the amount of the coupon will be returned to eBay, and you will receive a refund for the amount that you paid
  • The voucher is not expired. The expiration date will be on the voucher
  • The seller cannot use a third-party checkout system
  • You cannot use more than one voucher per purchase

Sharing vouchers

Some vouchers that you'll receive from eBay can be shared with other people, however most can be used only by you. If the voucher contains a specific email address, then only the owner of that email address can redeem the voucher. If you are the owner of the email address, but the email address is not included in your PayPal account, you'll need to add the email address to your PayPal account. If the voucher doesn't specify an email address, then you're free to share it with others.

Redeeming eBay Vouchers

After you win an item from a seller that accepts PayPal as a payment method, click the Pay Now button to pay for the item with PayPal. (You can find this button on the item page, from My eBay, and in the confirmation email that you receive from eBay.) You will then be given the opportunity to enter the redemption code and apply the voucher to your payment.

You cannot use more than one voucher per purchase.

Note: To redeem a voucher, you need to log into your PayPal account when you purchase the item, and the seller needs to accept PayPal as a payment method.

To redeem eBay Vouchers:

  1. Click the Pay Now button
  2. Enter the redemption code from the voucher into the "Redemption code" box at the bottom the page
  3. Click the Apply button to apply the discount to your purchase
Tip: Sometimes the redemption codes are long. If you received your redemption code online, it may be easier to select the code and copy it into the redemption code field rather than try to type it in and risk making a mistake
  4. Click the "Update Total" link to see your new total
  5. Complete your purchase. If the value of your voucher doesn't cover the total price of your purchase, you can pay the balance with your PayPal account using other funding sources, like your PayPal balance, bank account, or your credit card

Note: These steps assume that the seller is using eBay's Checkout system. Sellers have the option to use other checkout systems. If your seller does not use eBay Checkout, he or she will send you an invoice or other payment instructions to help you complete your purchase.

If you are having problems redeeming your voucher

In addition to reviewing the requirements listed above, check your email address. If the voucher specifically displays your email address, but you have not included that email address in your PayPal account, you will need to add the voucher email address to your PayPal account before being able to redeem the voucher.

To add an email address to your PayPal account:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account
  2. Click Profile at the top of the page
  3. Click the Email link under Account Information
  4. Click the Add button to add an email address to the account

Once you've added the voucher email address to your PayPal account, follow the instructions to confirm that address. When you're done, you'll be able to redeem the voucher.

eBay and PayPal Accounts

You need to have both an eBay and PayPal account to use eBay Vouchers. If you don't have an eBay account, you'll be given the opportunity to register on eBay when you purchase an item on eBay. You can sign up for a PayPal account when you purchase an item by clicking the Pay Now button. PayPal lets you pay securely over the Internet using your credit card, debit card, checking account, or a PayPal account balance.

Information for Sellers

If you're an eBay seller and you accept PayPal as a payment method, buyers can use eBay Vouchers to pay for your items. You'll receive regular funds just like any other PayPal payment.
